Kaučič, Simon, Lorenzutti, evening of improvised Jazz
23 July 2026 | Knjigarna kavarna Maks, Nova Gorica | 21:00
Zlatko Kaučič, drums and sound objects,
Boštjan Simon saxophone and electronics,
Anton Lorenzutti, guitar
The concert brought together representatives of three generations of the Gorizia region’s creative scene. Using electroacoustic approaches, extended instrumental techniques and attentive mutual listening, the musicians created spontaneous compositions. Their music emerged directly before the audience, continuously responding to the space, the atmosphere and each performer’s creative impulses.
Each musician contributed his distinctive expression to the shared soundscape. Kaučič’s dynamic rhythms and exploration of different sound objects intertwined with Simon’s saxophone lines and electronically processed sounds, while Lorenzutti’s guitar introduced new harmonic, melodic and textural dimensions. Restrained, almost meditative passages alternated with more intense bursts of sound, while the music retained a constant sense of openness and unpredictability.
The event was organised as part of the international project CAFÉ – Redefining Café Houses as Unique European Cultural Heritage. In a contemporary way, the concert highlighted the historical role of cafés as places of encounter, dialogue, exchange of ideas and artistic creation. The Maks Bookstore and Café was not merely a concert venue but an active part of the musical experience, as its intimate setting enabled direct contact between the performers and the audience.
Just as conversations develop spontaneously and new connections are formed over coffee, the music grew out of listening, responding and mutual trust. The encounter between three generations demonstrated that a café can still serve as a vibrant space for sharing experiences, creative collaboration and the emergence of new ideas. The concert connected the tradition of European café culture with contemporary forms of improvised music, offering the audience a unique and unrepeatable sonic experience.

The event is part of the CAFÉ project, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
